Grabbing the shoes on the right, I made my way over to pay when he sent another text.

Matty: Get back home now

There were goosebumps on my arms at his text. I handed the lady the cash and impatiently waited for her to return me the change.

Luckily, my teammates were already done and waiting for me by the food court.

“You hungry, Devin? You took long as fuck, so we started without you.”

Yeah, waiting for Matty to reply took longer than I had anticipated, but now that didn’t even matter; I just wanted to get home and see what the hell was going on. I could bet my left nut that it was the reason why he had been quiet.

“Naw, it’s all good. I got held up.” I smirked at them. That was my usual MO; pussy came calling, and I always answered the call. But lately, it was just my left hand and me—or right, depending on the night.

The guys I was with weren’t as stuck up as the other Blackstone locals. They dropped me off at the garage. All the lights were off, which was a sure sign that something was up. We usually kept some on if someone from the hood wanted something done. Pitch-black meant we weren’t home or weren’t taking calls.

The truck wasn’t here yet, so that meant Callum and Everly were still not back from their meet. The bus would take them to the school, and then they would have to drive around here. Matty had addressed the text to all of us, so he must have new information. And Everly better have spoken to Cal about went down at that dinner.

Out of my brothers, I was sure I was the one that trusted her the most. She had a warmth that I didn’t know I had been seeking for.

“Matty,” I shouted as I walked through the door. There was no answer, and he wasn’t in the rooms, so I made my way to the garage workshop. Sure enough, he was there.

He had one light on, and it was enough for him to see what he was doing.

“You need to be careful. What if that was them?” I questioned him as I nodded to what he was working on.

“Figured you’d be the first here,” he said. He put the tool in his back pocket and then covered up the rest of the project with a tarp.

“So, what happened?”

“Let’s wait for the others to get here. I don’t want to repeat myself.”

I took a deep breath. I sometimes wanted to bash his face into the ground, but I knew he wouldn’t budge.

“You seriously need to get laid,” I shot back the same shit I’d been saying for years.

Mateo raised his brow at me.

“Have you been getting pussy?”

Flipping him off, I walked back to the house and put my shit in my room. When I made it back to the garage, I could hear the engine of the truck outside.

Callum and Everly walked through the door, and I made my way to them as soon as they did.
